Engine Running

Engine Cold Start

The engine, on cold start runs at about 5.5 bars of oil pressure (80 PSI). Once it warms up to operating temperature it will hover around 4 bars (58 PSI). The engine has 77,000 original miles on it, and all four cylinders show exactly 140 PSI on a compression test. A good compression for a 1976 MGB engine is 120-150 PSI or slightly higher, but consistency between cylinders is more important than the exact numbers. Readings of 125-130 PSI are considered good.

Fast Idle

Slow Idle

At slow idle the engine is rock steady, with no perceptible shake.

Slow Idle – Exhaust Tone

You will notice that there is a smooth exhaust sound, albeit a bit sporty, coming from the full length, triple chromed muffler/tailpipe.
